What document formats can be converted by GoldBolt FaxSkape?
The conversion module of GoldBolt FaxSkape can convert nearly any printable format including Microsoft Office, PDF and HTML documents. The respective 'viewer applications' must be installed on the fax server for the conversion module to do the conversion, for example, Microsoft Office must be installed to convert office documents while Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader must be installed to convert PDF files to faxes.
The GoldBolt Software conversion module also has a number of built-in converters for HTML, JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF and TIFF image file formats. Each attached image is scaled and rendered to a new page.
Any document can be attached and sent to the fax server as these will be automatically rendered to a fax image before sending.

How can I control the quality of document conversion?
GoldBolt FaxSkape includes a high-quality renderer of converted documents via its server printer driver. All rendering is done in grey-scale or color to prepare for the final rendering of a bi-level (2-color/1bpp) fax image with optional dithering.
The dithering quality of the rendering output of the GoldBolt FaxSkape conversion module can be tweaked from the conversion category in the fax server configuration where you can choose quality versus speed.

Why is Microsoft .NET a requirement?GoldBolt FaxSkape was written from the ground up using the latest Microsoft technologies. Microsoft .NET is a very robust platform which gives faster development, native 64-bit support, increased security, reliability and maintainability. Thus both you as a customer and our development team benefit from this platform.

How does GoldBolt FaxSkape route incoming faxes?
GoldBolt FaxSkape is different from other fax server software in handling inbound routing. The method used by FaxSkape is a rule-based system where a fax or SMS is routed by meeting certain conditions and/or exceptions. These conditions and exceptions are set up by the administrator from the FaxSkape inbound routing configuration.
Where other fax server software would let you route by DID or TSID, FaxSkape lets you route by DID *and* TSID where a rule for both DID and TSID has to be met to route. This system makes you in control of inbound routing with simple flexibility.

Do I need IIS to install GoldBolt FaxSkape?GoldBolt FaxSkape does not need Internet Information Services (IIS) to handle its web-based interface or SMTP services. Instead a built-in HTTP, SMTP and POP3 server was developed in-house and is provided for the web based interface and mail handling. GoldBolt FaxSkape is a standalone mail server by all effects.
Top
Do I need a viewer to view GoldBolt FaxSkape faxes? You do not need any kind of proprietary viewer. Since GoldBolt FaxSkape attaches fax images as TIFF or PDF files, all you need is a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. The default Windows image viewer is sufficient to view TIFF files.
Top
Why does the GoldBolt FaxSkape service run under administrator account?
The GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server service needs to run under and administrative account due to the fact that the 'localsystem' account does not give enough privileges to access the system desktop when needed, thus the conversion would have troubles to work.
It is suggested that the administrator of the machine or the domain be set as the login account for the GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server service.
Top
Can I check faxes via the web?
GoldBolt FaxSkape has an in-house developed HTTP server built-in that serves the web interface for the fax server. There are currently two interfaces available, one being the real-time server monitor and one being the personal user area. In the real-time server monitor you can see the activity and the status that the fax server is currently in.
A user can login to the personal user area using his email address and password, if provided, so that the user's currently queued faxes can be managed. The user can also search and view his archived sent and received faxes. The user manual is also available online within the user personal area.

How do I set up spam/junk fax filtering? To set up spam/junk fax filtering, you have to set this up in the inbound routing rules and to route these faxes to a default user. For example you can set a rule that all faxes received with an empty TSID are routed to spam@myfaxserver.com.
Top
Why are my faxes remaining in the queue?Unlike other fax servers, GoldBolt FaxSkape treats the BUSY signal as a not currently available signal. In this case, the retries count is not taken into consideration and the fax is continuously sent until the line is not busy anymore.
Top
Does FaxSkape support UNICODE?GoldBolt FaxSkape has been developed from the ground up to support UNICODE. This is one of the advantages of developing with the Microsoft .NET framework.
Top
Can I change the faxskape.com and smsskape.com domains for sending?Yes you can change these from the SMTP server category of the FaxSkape configuration. You can actually have more than one active capture domain names by separating the domain names by semicolons ';'
Top
Does FaxSkape have support for Exchange connectors?GoldBolt FaxSkape has built-in support for Exchange connectors. Microsoft Exchange relays mails via SMTP to the FaxSkape SMTP server in the Microsoft proprietary TNEF format. Reading of this format is done via the in-house developed TNEF reader which does not need MAPI to be installed on the same machine as the FaxSkape fax server.

How do I check the build number of my installation of FaxSkape?Open the FaxSkape fax server configuration and go to the Miscellaneous category. From there you can view the build number of your FaxSkape installation.
Top
Where do I choose my modem model in FaxSkape?GoldBolt FaxSkape does not need to know the modem model you have. All it requires is that your modem is compliant with the ITU-T T.31 Fax Class 1/1.0 standard. This standard is the most common so most probably if your modem states that it is a fax modem, it should support fax class 1/1.0.

Why is my PDF reader not reading your PDF files?
The PDF files created by GoldBolt FaxSkape fax server are standard embedded image PDF files.

Make sure that your reader can read embedded CCITT Group 4 Fax images embedded in PDF files.
